Digital development and retouching
Translating a spatial reality into a photograph is a complex process, in which the atmosphere must remain essentially intact, though interpreted by the photographer through their creative palette.
I conceive development and retouching as an act of care and accompaniment to the photographer, so that each image faithfully expresses their intentions and stylistic personality.
The destination of the photographs matters. That is why I have designed a comprehensive workflow, divided into five phases , which not only seeks to obtain an original with the highest quality standards, but also to ensure that, whether in print, digital or web format, those images maintain their initial quality intact.
Comprehensive image retouching in 5 phases:
1. Development and geometry
Starting from the raw and original files, I develop and adapt colors and atmospheres to pre-established ideas that allow generating a tiff file suitable for precise intervention. Reframing, vertical alignment, working resolution and rough masking are added to the process.
2. Color refinement
Dominances, materials, depth and texture are the parameters I address in the photographs to give consistency to the result. Non-destructive and selective method with element layer separation.
3. Fine elements: addition and subtraction
In every photograph there is visual noise with elements that are surplus or out of place. It is also important to add others that will serve the solidity of the spatial narrative. The scenographic work complements a good and structured production.
4. Matte painting
Matte painting: vegetation, atmospheric and material. Creating plant elements that have not yet grown, improving textures that do not convey reality or modifying atmospheres in aerial and landscape photographs is important to stylistically adapt the result to the photographer’s intentions.
5. Preparation and output
Fine output according to objectives: mobile and computer screens, offset printing or giclée printing. Each destination requires adjustments in formats, resolutions, sharpening, upscaling and color profiling. After the effort to obtain a good photograph, we cannot improvise the final step: the delivery.
